PhiX174 RF I DNA is a double-stranded circular DNA molecule composed of 5,386 base pairs. Restriction enzyme digest of phiX174 RF I DNA results in the generation of molecular weight size markers that can be used in nucleic acid gel analysis. PhiX174 double-stranded circular DNA is also frequently used in restriction enzyme quality control assays to assess endonuclease activity.
