This hot-start formulation consists of Takara LA Taq plus a monoclonal antibody to Taq Polymerase. It retains all of the high performance features of Takara LA Taq and provides increased reaction specificity and reduced background. The polymerase mix is optimized for amplification of long DNA templates (routinely 20 kb and up to 48 kb depending on template type) with high fidelity. Separate tubes of optimized buffer (Mg2+ plus) and dNTP mix are supplied with the polymerase.

PCR products generated with Takara LA Taq contain a mixture of 3'-A overhangs and blunt ends, allowing >80% cloning efficiency into T-vectors. However, the efficiency of cloning longer products (>5 kb) into T-vectors is quite low.
