Receptor boosters are concentrated exosome-like vesicles that are applied to your target cells prior to infection with virus. Boosters result in increased transduction efficiency because treatment increases the cell surface density of the receptor recognized by the lentivirus (ecotropic) or retrovirus (ecotropic or amphotropic). Using this technology, for example, you can coat human cells with the ecotropic receptor (which is otherwise absent), enabling them to be transduced with ecotropic retrovirus or ecotropic lentivirus.

Usually, it is not possible to infect Jurkat cells, human mesenchymal stem cells, or human primary neural progenitor cells with ecotropic pseudotyped lentivirus. However, pre-treatment of these cell types with Ecotropic Receptor Booster allows for very efficient transduction.
