EDTA (ethylene-diamine-tetraacetic acid) is a chelating agent used to sequester divalent metal ions such as calcium and magnesium. This ability prevents DNA and RNA degradation, as metal-dependent enzymes acting as nucleases become deactivated. An EDTA solution which can easily be prepared by dissolving this powder in H2O. One pouch is used to prepare 500 ml of 0.5 M EDTA (pH 8.0).
Applications
- Inhibitor of metal-dependent enzymes
- Stop solution for metal ion dependent enzymatic reactions
- Preparation of TE buffer
Components
- 5 pouches (for 2.5 L)
- Final solution from one pouch (500 ml):
0.5 M EDTA, pH 8.0
